About Charlie's CHUM ON THE SPOT
Our Name
Behind the name ‘Charlie’s Chum on the Spot’ lies a heartfelt tribute to Matt’s Dad, Charlie, who has never fished a day in his life, but is the best man Matt has ever known, and embodies the values of integrity and excellence that are our inspiration and aspiration.
The name ‘Chum on the Spot’ signifies our commitment to
delivering chum right to the precise location of your baited hook.
Our CREW
Matt’s interest in fishing started when his son was 3 years old – 20 years ago – as his son’s interest in fishing started after the first cast. When you have a young son who’s happiest only when he’s fishing, you quickly start to learn all you can about fishing, including how to chum.
The Charlie’s Chum on the Spot “gadgets” resulted from Matt’s frustration of dispensing chum in the water, only to seemingly be chumming for the folks fishing downstream from where his son was fishing. He needed to find a better way to chum, and, after years of trial and error, he believes that these gadgets offer the person fishing a better way to chum.
Matt’s friend and business partner, Timmy, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise as a fifth-generation waterman from Maryland’s Eastern Shore. His lifetime’s worth of knowledge comes from the grit and determination needed to provide for his family when failure on the water could not be an option. Matt has found that if you want to learn about fishing (or really about anything) learn from someone whose success meant survival.
Each gadget is carefully assembled under the watchful eye of Matt’s dog, Willie. Willie is the sweetest rescue dog, originally found in a field in South Texas. All he wants to do is chase rabbits and squirrels and be included in whatever Matt is doing.

OUR CHUMMING GADGETS AND About CHUM
Chum is anything you put in the water that has a scent that will attract fish and entice them to bite the bait on your hook. Folks have spent lifetimes creating secret chum recipes. Here at Charlie’s Chum on the Spot, we’re working on our own special chum recipes and plan to offer them to you soon. In the meantime, we recommend starting with putting anything oily in our gadgets (such as fresh fish or crab parts, recently dead minnows, sardines from a can, etc ). It won’t take a whole lot of chum to be effective. We’d recommend that whatever you’re using for chum in our gadgets, try to have just the oil (not solid pieces) flow out of the holes. That way, the chum is attracting the fish, not feeding the fish!
